President William Ruto on Monday, October 19, 2026, held a consultative meeting with more than 5,000 Kalenjin elders from the North Rift and South Rift regions at the Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County, where they reviewed development progress and agreed on measures to accelerate key government programmes.
According to the President, the meeting assessed ongoing development projects in the region, identified areas requiring further attention and discussed future plans aimed at improving livelihoods.
Ruto said the leaders agreed to fast-track priority programmes in infrastructure development, agricultural reforms and youth employment to expand economic opportunities and spur regional growth.

“We took stock of development progress in the region, identified areas requiring further attention and discussed future plans,” the President said in a statement after the meeting.

He noted that participants resolved to accelerate initiatives targeting roads and other infrastructure projects, reforms in the agricultural sector and job creation for young people. The meeting also focused on fostering unity within the Rift Valley region and across the country.
Additionally, the President said the elders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cohesion while ensuring equitable development for all Kenyans regardless of their backgrounds or regions.

As part of the resolutions reached during the gathering, the participants adopted the slogan “Usawa ni Sawa, Mbele Pamoja” as their rallying call for unity, equitable development and shared prosperity.
The meeting comes as President Ruto continues engagements in the North Rift region ahead of this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret City.
