Residents of Tinderet Sub-County no longer need to travel long distances for specialized medical care.
This is after Meteitei Sub County Hospital in Songhor/Soba Ward unveiled a raft of expanded services aimed at bringing quality healthcare closer to home.
The facility now offers expanded lab services, dental services, a digital AI-powered Tuberculosis (TB) screening machine, ultrasound imaging, an eye clinic, and a dedicated premier clinic for TSC teachers and civil servants.

A modern maternity wing, standby generator, and fully equipped theatre have also been added, significantly improving the hospital’s capacity to handle emergencies and routine procedures.
“This transformation means our people can now access quality healthcare closer to home,” said Dr. Sammy Sirma, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent.
“The new theatre and maternity wing are already saving lives, and the AI TB screening machine has revolutionized how we detect and manage tuberculosis cases,” he added.
Impact of improved services at Meteitei Sub-County Hospital
Residents have welcomed the changes, particularly expectant mothers who previously faced risky journeys to facilities outside the sub-county.
The new maternity wing has already recorded increased deliveries, with mothers praising the improved privacy and equipment.
Meanwhile, the eye clinic addressing rising cases of vision problems in the agricultural community.

The hospital’s upgrades are expected to continue, with a new X-ray machine scheduled to arrive in the coming months – a development that will bring further relief to patients who currently travel elsewhere for imaging services.
Local leaders attribute the rapid transformation to political goodwill under the leadership of Governor Stephen Sang, alongside Health and Sanitation CEC Member Dr. Angeline Kirui and Chief Officer Fredrick Kiptum.
“The county government has made healthcare a top priority,” Governor Sang said. “What we are seeing at Meteitei is a testament to what teamwork and proper investment can achieve.”
With the upcoming X-ray machine, Meteitei Sub-County Hospital is poised to become a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment hub for Tinderet and beyond.
