Chelilim Orders Closure of Eldoret Clubs Operating In Residential Areas

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has ordered an immediate closure of night Clubs and Bars that operate in estates and other residential places within Eldoret town.

Speaking during the County Thanksgiving and Dedication Prayer Service in at the Eldoret Sports Club, the governor said a lot of nightclubs and bars have been sprouting in residential areas of Eldoret town against the law.

He further noted that the night clubs are becoming increasingly noisy in residential places where they have a negative impact on young people exposing them to drugs and alcohol abuse.

There are many night clubs in Eldoret today and there are some that are within residential areas. I have issued an order that all those in residential areas be shut down with immediate effect. This is because those clubs are welcoming satan to influence our people,” the county boss said.

He also expressed concerns over an increase in the number of young people using drugs in the county saying that his administration will not allow the trend to continue.

Prayers for the youth

Chelilim asked church leaders and parents to remain vigilant and pray for young people for a better future.

If we do not come and preach, satan will get an opportunity to preach for them in the clubs,” Chelilim said.

There is also an increase in use of drugs amongst our young generation, especially bhang. We need to pray for our children and the current generation,” the governor noted.

Eldoret town has in the recent past witnessed an increase in the number of clubs, even as it gears towards the city status.

Most of the clubs are located along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway and Eldoret-Kapsabet road.

Today, the town is considered an entertainment hub for the North Rift region, an industry that has also played a key role in the towns fast growth – economically, alognsode being a medical, educational and financial hub.
