As a push for the Eldoret elevation to the city status continues, plans are in place to have all buildings within the town repainted.
Eldoret Municipality chairman Julius Kitur on Friday, November 25, 2022, revealed that they are working on holding a meeting with all property owners to agree on how best to implement the initiative.
“We are working on a regeneration project for our town as the process of being a city continues. We will soon have a meeting with building owners and see how we can repaint them,” Kitur said.
He spoke during the launch of the Eldoret Town Cleanup week, an exercise he said will be held annually.

Eldoret town has for the last few years experienced a facelift, with newly tarmacked roads built and back lanes renovated.
There have also been multiple constructions works ongoing, with old structures being replaced with new modern buildings, setting the pace for the city status push.
It is only recently that an ad hoc committee for the city status push concluded public participation forums.
Trash bags
The Eldoret Municipality chairman says 90 per cent of those that presented their views to the committee supported the city status push.
Aside from seeking all buildings repainted, the Eldoret Municipality said it will also be introducing trash bags, in a bid to make the town cleaner.
“We want to be cleaner that the Rwanda city – Kigali,” said Kitur.
“We will introduce thrash bags that will be used by locals to put in the garbage, which will later be picked up by garbage collectors,” he added.

The county had a few years ago introduced dustbins that were put at strategic locations but were later forced to withdraw.
Eldoret Town Manager Tito Koiyet said they removed the dustbins as they were not serving the intended purpose.
“We wanted the dust bins to be used for waste of locals within the town but we realized people were using them for their domestic waste,” Koiyet said.
