As part of the effort, the County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with Colgate has taken a significant step towards improving the oral health care of its residents and by recognizing its importance in overall health.
Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration has since initiated a program that aims to create awareness and provide training to caregivers nurses, public health officers and clinicians who will then spread the knowledge to the community.

By prioritizing oral health care, the Department of Health Services is taking a proactive approach towards improving the overall well-being of its residents. Oral health has often been neglected leading to various dental diseases and other health complications.
Significance of oral health
Speaking during one of the trainings, Chief Officer for Clinical Services Dr. Paul Wangwe expressed his commitment to ensuring that all the health care providers in the county receive comprehensive training on oral health care.
Through the training, Dr Wangwe says the officers will have a better understanding of the significance of oral health in preventing diseases and improving overall quality of life.
“By empowering service providers with this information the County Government hopes to create a ripple effect where residents can benefit from the expertise and guidance of healthcare professionals,” says Dr Wangwe.

The program aims to train 200 providers on the fundamentals of oral health care that includes mouth, teeth and diseases thus equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to educate and guide residents in maintaining good oral hygiene practices.
