According to Deputy Governor Eng John Barorot, they are working on moderlities that will see the county directly distribute the fertilizers to farmers.

This, Eng Barorot said will stop brokers from exploiting farmers.

The county will be the one in charge of distributing the fertilizers next season and we will see how best to manage it,” said the deputy county boss.

DG Barorot at a recent event.

The national government has already said devolved units will play a key role in ensuring subsidized fertilizers easily reach a farmer.

President William Ruto has further pledged that his government will be availing 6 million bags of fertilizers to farmers at a subsidized price in the upcoming long rain season.

So far, 1.4 million bags of subsidized fertilizers retailing at Ksh3,500 per bag has been distributed to farmers for the short rain season planting season.

The fertilizers are being distributed through the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.

But speaking at Chebororwa Agricultural Training Centre, Eng Barorot said proper arrangements have been put in place by the county government to manage the subsidised fertiliser that will be provided by the national government.

Youth in Agriculture

Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure farm produce are competitive in the market and attract many young people into farming, the Deputy Governor challenged Chebororwa ATC to explore innovation and technology that enables affordable ways of practising agriculture.

He also urged young people to venture into horticulture which is more easy, cheap and has quick returns compared to other farming practices.

Using technology and innovation, how can we come out with programs that make farming attractive to the youths?” he said.

I want to challenge various agricultural institutions to understand what can be produced fast and easily for farmers to be competitive in the market,” added Eng Barorot.
