Eldoret City Manager Elzeba Busienei on Friday, September 11, 2026, supervised the ongoing digital street addressing exercise, a key initiative aimed at strengthening urban logistical management and accelerating the city’s transition into a smart city.
The digital addressing system will provide standardized and easily identifiable locations for streets, buildings, businesses and other properties across Eldoret, making it easier to locate and access services.
“Our interest has been to make this City a smart urban with clear and efficient logistical and positioning systems,” said Busienei.
Beyond navigation, the system is expected to support a wide range of city functions, including emergency response, delivery services, urban planning, property management, data collection and efficient service delivery.

The digital street addressing system also incorporates QR codes mounted on buildings, providing global positioning and geographical coordinates for specific locations.
Ms Busienei said the technology would enhance communication and coordination by enabling accurate positioning of buildings and other facilities within the city.
The initiative is also expected to generate reliable location-based data to support urban planning and decision-making, while improving coordination between government agencies, businesses and residents.
Of particular importance to the city administration, the digital addressing system will facilitate business identification and provide a more accurate basis for revenue mapping and administration.
Busienei said the programme is part of the city’s broader efforts to embrace technology and modernize urban management as Eldoret continues to expand.
The system is expected to lay the foundation for a more connected, efficient and technology-driven Eldoret, reinforcing the city’s ambition of becoming a smart city.
The digital addressing initiative, she said, is therefore not only about giving streets and buildings identifiable locations, but also about building a modern urban system capable of supporting efficient service delivery, business development, and overall city management.
The City Manager also urged landlords and property owners to paint their buildings, reiterating that there is a waiver for painting, a pardon that runs until November.
