‘Dr Bii’: Koti Moja Successfully Defends PhD Thesis


Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim alias Koti Moja is set to join a list of most educated politicians in the country.

Bii who is serving his first term as a county boss on Monday said he had successfully defended his Thesis.

In a post on his verified social media pages, the Governor revealed that he had been working on his PhD since 2018.

He was enrolled at Kisii University’s School of Arts and Social Science.

Women play a crucial role in society. I have successfully defended my PhD thesis on ‘Resource Mobilization Strategies for the Sustainability of Women-Led Agricultural Development Projects in Uasin Gishu County,” Koti Moja said in part of the Facebook post.

“I began this journey in 2018 at Kisii University, School of Arts and Social Science and it has been a journey filled with valuable experiences and life lessons,” he added.

Koti Moja’s supervisors have been Dr. Peter Gutwa and Eng. Caleb Akuku.

He has appreciated them for what he described as their invaluable guidance.

I would like to express my gratitude to Kisii University and, most importantly, to my supervisors, Dr. Peter Gutwa, PhD, and Dr. Eng. Caleb Akuku, PhD, for their invaluable guidance throughout this process,” the governor said.

Most educated governors in Kenya

By successfully defending his thesis, Governor Bii is now set to graduate with a PhD.

A PhD is a terminal academic degree students typically pursue when they’re interested in an academic or research career.

It is the highest possible academic degree a student can obtain. PhD stands for “Doctor of Philosophy,” which refers to the immense knowledge a student gains when earning the degree.

After he graduates, Bii will join a list of most educated governors in the country among them Kisumu’s Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, Dr Eric Mutai of Kericho and Kakamega’s FCPA Fernandes Barasa.

In Uasin Gishu, Koti Moja will be the second most educated elected leader after Moiben Member of Parliament Prof Phyllis Bartoo.
