Eldoret Boy Who Scored 410 Marks Seeks Support to Join Friends School Kamusinga

As hundreds of 2022 KCPE candidates who performed well prepare to join their respective secondary schools, one of them is staring at a bleak future.

Paul Junior sat for his KCPE exam at Zion Gates Academy in Eldoret. He was ranked top in the school after scoring 410 marks – an effort that secured him a place at Kamusinga Boys – one of the national schools in the country.

But even though he has secured his form one slot, he fears he might miss out for lack of school fees.

He was brought up by a single mother and all his primary school education was financed by a well-wisher – Nancy Kuria, the Director of Zion Gates Academy.

The boy who scored 410 marks in the 2022 KCPE.

I have been with the boy since class one and it is unfortunate that his parent can’t raise his secondary school fees,” Kuria told Uasin Gishu News on January 27, 2023.

He’s very disciplined, humble and hardworking. For the eight years, I have been with him. I gave him a scholarship but my worry was what will happen next after sitting for KCPE,” she added.

According to the teacher, during the boy’s primary education, he depended on food from school as it was not guaranteed at home.

Menial work

The boy’s mother Beatrice Mwanje depends on menial work to earn a living. She moves around estates to wash clothes for others so that she can put something on the table.

My plea is to anyone willing to help my son to go school. I have no ability to raise the kind of money needed,” the mother appealed.

Similar sentiments were also made by Paul whose dream is to one day become a pilot.

It breaks my heart to think of the possibility of not being able to join the secondary school because my mother is not able to get the money. I will be happy if a well-wisher comes in to offer my support,” Paul passionately appealed.

The Ministry of Education has already set from 6th February 2023 to 13th February 2023 as reporting period for all 2023 Form One student.
