Elgeyo Marakwet County Completes 100-Acre Land Acquisition for Industrial Park Project

The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has completed the acquisition of a 100-acre parcel of land earmarked for the establishment of the county’s Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP), marking a major milestone in efforts to accelerate industrialisation and economic transformation.

Governor Wisley Rotich on Friday, October 30, 2026, announced that the land acquisition process had been finalised in partnership with the National Land Commission (NLC), paving the way for construction works to begin.

“The site has now been handed over to the contractor to commence construction as we plan for the official launch,” Rotich said in a statememt shared on his Facebook page.

The industrial park is one of the county’s flagship development projects and will be jointly funded by the county and national governments on a 50-50 basis.

Anticipated impact of Elgeyo Marakwet industrial park

Once completed, the industrial park will feature essential infrastructure aimed at creating a business-friendly environment for manufacturers and other investors.

The planned works include the construction of warehouses, installation of electricity and water systems, and development of other key amenities needed to support industrial operations.

“We shall also allocate land to those investors who wish to build their own premises,” the county boss noted.

Governor Rotich expects the project to attract investment into the region, boost value addition and expand market opportunities for local producers.

The governor linked the industrial park to Elgeyo Marakwet’s broader wealth creation strategy, which has focused on encouraging residents to embrace commercial cash crop farming.

He said the facility will provide a ready market for agricultural produce from across the county while increasing earnings for farmers through local processing and value addition.

“This will now complete the cycle for our wealth creation program which started with cash crop adoption by EMC residents,” said Rotich.

The governor added that the project is expected to create employment opportunities for young people and accelerate economic growth across the county.

“This will create a ready market for EMC agricultural produce, empower farmers and create jobs for our youth while transforming our economy,” he said.

How investors will take part in Elgeyo Marakwet industrial park

Meanwhile, Rotich revealed that the county government is finalising an implementation framework that will outline how investors, farmers and other stakeholders can participate in the industrial park program.

He also thanked President William Ruto, the National Land Commission and other leaders for supporting the land acquisition process.

“I wish to appreciate President William Ruto and colleague leaders for the immense support towards the land acquisition,” he said.

The launch of the Aggregation and Industrial Park is expected to strengthen Elgeyo Marakwet’s position as an emerging hub for agro-processing and manufacturing, while supporting the government’s agenda of creating jobs and expanding opportunities for local farmers.
