The County Government of Uasin Gishu has signed a Cooperation Agreement with SEKO Aerospace, a.s. of the Czech Republic, marking a major milestone in plans to transform Eldoret City through solar-powered street lighting, renewable energy and smart-city technology.
The project has received the requisite approvals under the Public Private Partnerships Act, 2021 (Cap. 430), and is now at the final stage of negotiations, with the parties working towards the execution of the Project Agreement and financial close.
It will be implemented in phases, covering the development of a solar power generation plant and a solar-powered street lighting network across Eldoret City, alongside the integration of smart-city technologies.
The planned technologies include smart traffic management systems, LED display screens, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, public internet hotspots and an interconnected CCTV surveillance system to enhance security and improve urban management.

Upon implementation, the project is expected to enhance public safety, improve energy efficiency, promote clean energy and position Eldoret as a more connected, technologically advanced and sustainable urban centre.
The initiative reflects the County Government’s commitment to innovative partnerships and sustainable infrastructure that support the city’s growth while improving the quality of life for residents, traders, investors and visitors.
