Eldoret town will for the next three or four days be playing host to the national championship of children with special needs.
The games officially kicked off on Friday, September 9, 2022.
They are being hosted at two schools – Hill School and Moi Girls High School.
According to the Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki, over 1,000 children from different special need schools are participating in the games.

In an interview with Uasin Gishu News at his office in Eldoret town, Muriuki said the championships which are for ball games have representatives from each of the 8 former regions.
“The games will continue up to Monday which is the final day and teams will leave to their stations,” said the County Director of Education.
Before the official commissioning of the games by Director of Special Education Fred Haga, the participants were flagged off by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim.

Thereafter, they marched through Eldoret town streets sensitizing people of the games and need to regard children with special need just like any other.
Venue for the games
Among the special need children participating in the games include the visually handicapped, physically handicapped and those with autism.
“The visually and physically handicapped will have their games staged at Moi High School Eldoret while those with autism and other special needs will be played at Hill School,” said Muriuki.
Further, winners will be awarded with trophies and certificates.

Some of the disciplines the students will be competing in include football, netball, volleyball and handball.
“We expect the games to be entertaining, we have sensitized residents and we know they will come to support the young boys and girls,” said the education official.
“The most important thing in these games is to make them feel they are part of us and showcase their talent so that people can believe in them,” he added.
