The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has pledged to support President William Ruto’s nominee for the Education docket, Ezekiel Machogu.
Ruto named Machogu the Education Cabinet Secretary nominee when he unveiled his cabinet on Tuesday this week.
The appointment has now been welcomed by KNUT officials led by Sammy Bor, the Eldoret East branch secretary.
Bor, in an interview with Uasin Gishu News on Thursday, September 29, 2022, said he is confident that the new Education CS shall carry on the pursuit of an improved system of education for Kenyans because of his many years of experience in Public Service.

“I thank H.E William Ruto for appointing Machogu to be in charge of Education. Due to his experience in public service, he will be able to deliver to Kenyans making sure that CBC is successful. I, therefore, urge him to be keen on the goals that were set by the previous Education CS, Prof. George Magoha,” said the KNUT official.
Transition
He further pointed out that a review of the curriculum will be a solution to challenges and misunderstandings experienced in the sector.
“A task force with ample experience in education should be recruited as soon as possible for everyone to move forward to understand and embrace the curriculum. Due to the transition from grade six to junior secondary, more infrastructure and staff are needed for 100 per cent transition to be achieved,” said Bor.
The KNUT National Executive Committee (NEC) member also urged the new Education CS to empower teachers to enable them to deliver quality teaching.

“We, the teachers union pledge to work in support of CS Machogu in achieving the goals of CBC because education is life and key to development,” said Bor.
Machogu, a former Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament has previously served as the Senior Deputy Secretary in public service from 2008 to 2016.
He unsuccessfully vied for the Kisii gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket in the August 9, 2022, general election.
His nomination is awaiting vetting and approval from the National Assembly.
