New road networks, sewerage systems, flood lights and street lights are among key infrastructural developments set to begin in Ngomongo, KK, Segero, and Shauri Yako Settlements within soon-to-be Eldoret city.
The new projects will be implemented under the second phase of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme (KISIP2) in a bid to see that the city’s outlook is improved.
A technical team comprising of Engineers, Planners, Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors on Thursday set out to do mapping as well as picking of coordinates to come up with the designs for the major infrastructure works in the aforementioned settlements.

Leading the team, Eng. Benjamin Kirongo who is the Director Public Works said they were well armed with all proper tools and instruments provided by the County as well as consultative support from the various service providers including Kenya Power and Eldowas for thorough design works to be done.
Improved living conditions
While at it, the team put in all their efforts to ensure that all the works meet international standard requirements.
Once the projects are completed, residents within these settlements will experience improved living conditions as a result of infrastructure upgrading for basic services such as roads, erection of high mast flood lights and street lights, sewer connections and drainages among others.
The previous KISIP projects saw similar improvements in Langas, Huruma, Hill School among other estates within Eldoret.

The new projects come at a time Eldoret is expected to soon be conferred the city status charter after the Senate Committee on Devolution on Thursday recommended its elevation.
Senators will now debate the report and once approved, President William Ruto will award the charter to make Eldoret the fifth city after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru.
