Eldoret: Senators Beat Governors in Devolution Conference Curtain-Raiser Game

In an exciting turn of events, Governors and Senators on Tuesday temporarily set aside their political roles to display their football prowess at the Kipchoge Keino in Eldoret.

Serving as the curtain-raiser for the 8th Devolution Conference, the talented senators competed against the governors in a friendly football match.

The conference is slated to take place at The Eldoret Sports Club from August 16th to the 19th.

During the entertaining game that was witnessed by a considerably impressive number of locals, the Senate team beat the County heads 3-0.

Governors led by their captain, Bungoma’s Ken Lusaka, squandered several clear-cut chances, with some losing focus and shooting in errant directions.

The Senate team went into the first-half break with a commanding 2-0 lead before adding a third in the second half to round off a convincing win.

Following the conclusion of the friendly, the politicians participated in a penalty shootout. Each side selected five players to execute the penalty kicks.

Earlier in the day, a team from Nyandarua County walloped the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) 6-0.

DEVCON 5km fun race

There was also an earlier 5-kilometre fun race around Eldoret town that saw several governors, senators and other dignitaries participate including Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

Further, participants in the Devolution Conference competed in the short races at the stadium which is still under construction.

The games mark the start of the conference that will be running until this Friday.

President William Ruto is expected to officially open the event on Wednesday.

At least 10,000 delegates are attending the conference that will henceforth be held after every two years.
