There was a sigh of relief for over 500 members of the Eldoret business community operating along the Tagore-Western matatu stage with the town’s CBD following the unblocking of drainages by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
The business community members led by Mary Njambi, Sheila Chemutai, and Alice Kariuki, said the affected drainages were a hindrance to their business, especially during rainy seasons.
While speaking to Roads Chief Officer Eng. Abraham Kiptalam during an inspection exercise, they said that during heavy rains, the water remains stagnant causing a bad odour that scares their customers from accessing their business premises as well as flooding into their shops and stalls.

“We are grateful to Governor Bii for responding to our distress call by sending engineers from the Department roads, transport, and public works to come to the site and start working on the affected drainages,” said Mrs. Kariuki
She added that the challenge has been there for more than two decades, noting that their business was destined to thrive following the County Government’s initiative to unblock the drainage system in the area.
On her part, Mrs Njambi said the place had turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes noting that their cries for help were never answered until Governor Bii came to their rescue.

According to CECM for Roads Engineer Joseph Lagat, the County Government’s target is to solve the drainage problems that have been there since 1997 once and for all.
“We want to ensure that our business community operates their business in a conducive environment for their businesses to thrive,” stated Engineer Lagat.
