With improved road infrastructure under Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s administration, many residents and visitors have started putting up permanent houses in areas that were initially shunned due to impassable roads.

During a tour of one of the projects by Roads Chief Officer Eng. Abraham Kiptalam along Kapkeben Primary -Sirikwa Quarry in Kapsaos Ward, Soy Sub County, the private developers and residents said they couldn’t invest in the housing projects owing to impassable roads coupled with rampant cases of insecurity.

They lauded the county government for opening the area to both private investors and residents, saying the move would boost social and economic income.

Chief Officer Eng Kiptalam said more such road projects are ongoing in other parts of the county to improve the Agricultural sector and also open up areas for local farmers to access the market in Eldoret City for their farm produce.

In the last few years, Uasin Gishu County has been investing heavily in road infrastructure.

During the 2023/2024 Fiscal Year, Ksh462.9 million was allocated for the construction of roads.

The county set a target of grading at least 1,200 roads and gravelling 400 kilometres of roads this financial year.

We have 3,500kms of county roads and we want to grade 1,200 of those – most of them are in good condition,” the Roads CECM said in October 2023.
