The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has officially announced an increase in water and sewerage tariffs that will take effect in November 2024.
The tariff adjustments follow the approval of the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 12825, dated October 4, 2024.
According to ELDOWAS, the adjustments are part of their continuous efforts to improve water and sanitation services. The changes will affect all consumer categories within the Eldoret service region.
The new tariffs follow ELDOWAS’s application for the adjustment in January 2024. After stakeholder consultations, including a key meeting at Uasin Gishu Social Hall on May 15, 2024, WASREB approved the new charges.
“Consumers are urged to prepare for the revised rates, which will be reflected in their water bills starting in November 2024,” the company said in a public notice signed by acting Managing Director Fredrick Kosgey.
Breakdown of ELDOWAS Water Tariff Adjustments
The water tariff adjustments apply across different consumption blocks and categories of consumers.
For domestic or residential consumers, the revised charges start at KSh 130 per cubic meter (M³) for consumption between 1-6 cubic meters. For higher consumption, the tariff rises in incremental blocks, reaching KSh 160 per M³ for usage above 300 cubic meters.

Multi-dwelling units and gated communities will be charged KSh 135 per cubic meter, while commercial, industrial, and institutional consumers face tariffs starting at KSh 140 per cubic meter for consumption between 1-50 cubic meters. The highest consumption levels for these categories, exceeding 300 cubic meters, will be charged KSh 160 per cubic meter.
Public schools, colleges, and universities will experience a similar pricing structure, starting at KSh 135 per cubic meter for consumption up to 600 cubic meters and increasing to KSh 160 per cubic meter for usage above 1,200 cubic meters.
New ELDOWAS Sewerage Tariff Adjustments
Consumers with water connections will also see changes in sewerage tariffs. The sewerage charges will be determined based on 75% of the volume of water consumed, with residential customers facing charges ranging from KSh 90 to KSh 115 per cubic meter, depending on consumption levels.
Multi-dwelling units and gated communities, as well as commercial and industrial customers, will pay KSh 110 per cubic meter of sewerage discharged. Public schools, universities, and colleges will see rates that range from KSh 100 to KSh 115 per cubic meter, depending on their water consumption.

Meanwhile, ELDOWAS has reassured the public that tariff adjustments are necessary to ensure the company’s ability to provide efficient, reliable, and cost-effective water and sanitation services. The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining high service delivery standards while balancing operational costs.
Consumers are encouraged to take note of the changes and make necessary adjustments to their budgets ahead of the November 2024 billing cycle.
The current tariff was revised in July 2024.
