Eldoret Locals to Pay More for Water as ELDOWAS Reviews Tariff

The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has announced a review of water tariffs which will see its customers pay more for the services.

In a notice shared on its official social media pages, the company that provides water and sewerage services within the Eldoret municipality said the new tariffs had been approved by the regulator – Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB).

Notice is hereby given that we have adjusted the water services tariff, as per the regulator’s approval in Gazette Notice No. 9727 of 2023,” read part of the notice.

Under the new tariffs, domestic customers with a consumption of between 1 to 6 cubic metres  (m3) of water will be paying Ksh37 up from Ksh28 that they were previously paying while those using over 300 cubic metres per month will pay Ksh111 per cubic metre up from Ksh105.

Commercial/Industrial category customers using between 1-50 m3 will now pay Ksh72 per m3 from the current price of Ksh68 per m3 with those with a consumption of between 100-300 m3 paying Ksh99 per m3, up from Ksh94.

Further, commercial water users above 300 m3 per month will be paying a new rate of Ksh111.

They have been paying Ksh105 per cubic metre.

In addition, government institutions using between 51 and 100 m3 per month will be paying a new Ksh79 per m3 and Ksh99 per m3 for those with consumption of 1-1-300 m3.

The previous rate was Ksh75 and Ksh94 respectively.

The tariff for the usage of over 300 cubic metres remains the same as that for domestic and industrial categories.

For schools using 1-600 m3 of water monthly will pay Ksh32 per m3 from Ksh30 and Ksh37 for usage between 601 and 1200 m3.

Water Kiosks tariff

Moreover, a school using over 1200 m3 per month will pay Ksh48 per cubic metre up from Ksh45.

However, the tariff for water kiosks remains at Ksh35 per m3.

Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs) will pay Ksh47.6 per m3 while the Bulk tariff has been set at Ksh21.1 per m3.

The changes also affect sewerage tariffs.

This adjustment applies to all bills issued between 1st July 2023 to 30th June 2024 and has been reflected in your August 2023 bill,” Eldowas said in a notice signed by its Managing Director Peter Kibet Arap Biwott.
