Elgeyo Marakwet: 344 Students Graduate under Wezesha Vijana 2jiajiri Program

Some 344 students graduated today from various Vocational Training Centres after undertaking 6 Months’ training, a scholarship sponsored by the County government in partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank KCB Foundation.

Out of the cohort, 250 of them were gifted a tool kit with which they would proceed to start up business immediately.

The ceremony held at Iten Sports ground was graced by Governor Wisely Rotich, County Assembly Speaker Kiplagat Sabulei, and Deputy Governor Grace Cheserek and attended by graduates, their parents and the public.

In his address, the governor saluted the parents for heeding the call to have the students undertake the initiative.

I would not have been a better governor if your parents did not support this idea. I also commend the graduates for their commitment,” said the governor.

The governor challenged the cohort to embrace discipline as they embarked on establishing their businesses. This year, the program commenced the second phase of the program and it attracted massive applications with 800 being taken on board.

According to Ms Purity Kiptoo, the program officer the program has also attracted a lot of interest and it would be a game changer in transforming lives.

KCB Foundation chief of Party Bernard Barasa further said the graduands represented the vision of the society and therefore challenged them to maintain discipline as they live their dreams.

The courses undertaken by the cohort included plumbing, carpentry and joinery, food technology, masonry, hairdressing, garment making, motor vehicle mechanic, Shoe making, welding and fabrication as well as Electrical installation.
