Elgeyo Marakwet Woos Investors As Business Exhibition Summit Kicks Off

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has called on both local and international investors to tap into the county’s diverse investment opportunities.

Speaking during the official opening of the inaugural Elgeyo Marakwet Business Summit in Iten, the governor said the county offers vast prospects across multiple sectors.

Our county is uniquely blessed with incredible resources and three distinct ecological zones—the highlands, the hanging valley, and the Kerio Valley,” he said.

This provides rich agricultural land, unmatched athletic talent, breathtaking landscapes, a resilient and hardworking people, and a strategic position along the Rift Valley economic corridor. Every investment can thrive here.”

Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo, the summit’s chief guest, also urged investors to seize the available business prospects in the region.

Iten is known as an athletic town. There are numerous investment opportunities ranging from sports tourism to the hospitality sector,” he said.

How Kenyan government is partnering with private sector to enhance investment

The PS noted that the national government, in collaboration with the county administration and private sector players, is committed to enhancing investment and productivity in the region.

Stephen Kimeli, a farmer from Kapchemutwa, was among the many participants at the exhibition.

He said the event had been an eye-opener, particularly in dairy farming.

I had an opportunity to learn new farming methods today. I am very encouraged. It is a worthy event,” he said.

Moses Changwony, a panelist, said the exhibition summit was an eye opener to farmers and business community.

This is one good step of linking farmers to markets. “We are capable of being a leader in coffee production. I would like to applaud the county government for orginising this event,” he said.

Kenya Chamber of Commerce President Dr. Erick Rutto reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to expanding investments in the county.

The Kenya Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to showcasing Elgeyo Marakwet to the world. There is enormous potential in coffee production, dairy, and tourism. Our agenda is to attract more investors,” he said.

The two-day summit brought together national and local leaders as well as more than 150 exhibitors.
