The Energy and Petroleum Regularly Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction in diesel prices.
EPRA in a statement on Monday night said the decision follows a petition by the public transport sector players.
The petition, EPRA noted, expressed the need to minimise the risk of motor fuel adulteration due to a huge price gap between kerosine and diesel.
In the recalculated proves, a litre of diesel will retail at Ksh 10.06 less while that of kerosine has been increased by Ksh 38.60.
“We have recalculated the maximum petroleum prices to be in force from 19th May 2026 to 14th June 2026 following a petition by public transport sector operators on the need to minimize the risk of motor fuel adulteration that may arise due to Diesel & Kerosene price difference,” the agency said in part of the statement.
“The applicable pump price per litre in Nairobi for Diesel therefore decreases by KShs.10.06/litre and that of Kerosene increases by KShs.38.60/litre. The price for Super Petrol remains unchanged,” it added.
In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene now retail at Ksh 214.25, Ksh 232.86 and Ksh 191.38.
The new prices for diesel and kerosine are effective for the next 30 days.
The move came just hours after matatus made good their threats to strike over high fuel prices.
As a result if the strike, public transport in most of the regions was disrupted.
There were also protests in several parts of the country that witnessed incidences of looting and destruction of properties.
At least four people were killed during the protests.
