A retired senior chief was on January 16, 2023, presented before an Eldoret court facing defilement charges.
The former Kimumu Location senior chief, William Sang, is accused of defiling a 17-year-old girl. Court documents indicate that Sang, also a former General Service Unit (GSU) officer, committed the crime on December 12, 2022, in Kaptagat village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to the prosecution, the former senior chief who owns multiple rental houses in Eldoret town lured the underage girl into having sexual intercourse with her, contrary to Sexual Offences Act.

He is also facing an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with an underage girl by touching her private parts.
Sang was presented before the Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Menya. He denied all the charges levelled against him.
Caught by mob
The court granted him a Ksh200,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount. The mention for the case has been set for February 6, 2023.
The senior chief was allegedly caught in the act with the minor by an angry mob who is said to have received a tip-off from members of the public. The mob later beat him up, before he was handed to the police.

Kenyan law provides that a person who commits an act which causes penetration with a child is guilty of an offence termed defilement.
