The County Government of Uasin Gishu Department of Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development on January 17, 2023, held a consultative meeting with the sub-county trade officers and market masters on how to improve the status of all markets across the county.
While chairing the meeting, the Trade County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Martha Cheruto called on the officers to be efficient noting that performance management is key in service delivery.
She also challenged trade officers to continuously encourage traders to be in cooperative societies so that they can benefit from the County’s loans to improve their businesses.

CECM in charge of Public Service Management Elijah Kosgei noted that the county administration will soon be taking officers for training sessions(refresher courses) for improved service delivery across the sectors.
On his part, CECM Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat added that his department will facilitate the department through infrastructure improvement and provision of security lights and utilities including electricity and water.

There has already been improvement on road networks within the Kimumu/Bahati Fresh Produce Wholesale Market.
Plans to improve existing markets comes at a time the national government has initiated the process of building a new market in Eldoret.
The market expected to cost Ksh6 billion will be constructed at the current 64 Retail market that was closed in November 2022.

However, after the closure of the market, traders were advised to move their operations to other markets within Eldoret town that include those in Kahoya, Huruma estate, Kapseret, Kuinet and Kimumu/Bahati market.
