Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on January 16, 2023, launched road maintenance across the County.
In a launch held at Sikhendu ward, Governor Natembeya said poor roads in the County had hampered farmers from transporting their farm produce to the market.
He also said all roads will be graded and murramed to ensure they are passable as one way of wooing investors.
“My government will ensure all our roads are within the standard level. For example, the 4 Kilometers project that runs through Mukuyuni Market to Kabuyefwe Secondary school will have five Culverts,” Natembeya added.
The department of roads and public works Governor said will hire local youths for menial jobs like bush clearing. This he said will improve their economic status and help them meet their needs.
“I, therefore, urge our youths to be vigilant as my government has organized incorporating them in the whole maintenance exercise that we have started this morning,” Natembeya said.
The maintenance of roads and opening of the drainage system are scheduled to be carried out in all 25 wards.
On tendering, the Governor revealed that beneficiaries will be getting upfront cash from banking institutions on the provision of Local Purchase Orders (LPO).
Spur development
This he added will help the contractors with low finances in their accounts operate smoothly.
The Governor was also accompanied by Deputy Dr Philomena Kapkory who said road construction and maintenance are key to unlocking and spurring development.
She said the road maintenance exercise is a clear demonstration of that county administration is fulfilling its electioneering pledge to the people of Trans-Nzoia.
The deputy governor warned those who have encroached on road reserves saying the land set aside by the government is meant for expansion of roads asking them to pave way for the works, saying those who will resist the the government will have no otherwise but to apply force by evicting them.
On his part CEC for roads and Public Works Jackson Amboka challenged residents to be vigilant and protect culverts and other road signage’s from being vandalized.
