The County Government of Uasin Gishu has expressed its commitment to continue partnering with all stakeholders in training on emergency-related matters.
As part of the partnership, Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer David Wanyama Sitati has revealed that they will be partnering with institutions of learning to train students.
This, Wanyama says is due to the fact that it is important for children and learners to be equipped with skills and knowledge of what to do in case an incident occurs.
Uasin Gishu Chief Fire Officer further notes that through the training, they want learners, teachers and community members to acquire crucial skills in First Aid, Post Trauma Stress Management, as well as Disaster Preparedness and Response.

Water Rescue, Fire Prevention and Safety, and search and rescue are among other skills they hope learners and teachers will be equipped with.
“The program had been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are now ready to resume the training in schools to equip learners with knowledge and skills,” Sitati said.
In addition, he said, the idea is that if such incidents were to happen, everyone would know how to act or what to do without being threatened during an emergency.
He further expressed the importance of all schools having health and safety guidelines alongside every student being taken through the training.

“Regular sensitization should be done to ensure that the students, teachers, staff and other stakeholders know what to do in case of an emergency,” Sitati emphasised.
