George Natembeya Wants Government to Further Reduce Fertilizer Prices to Boost Maize Production

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has said despite the government’s effort to subsidize fertilizer to Ksh 2,500 per bag, the cost is still higher for the farmers due to the harsh economic times.

Speaking during a free maize seed distribution initiative at Bikeke in Sirende ward, Natembeya said the price should be further reduced to enable farmers to increase production.

The price for fertilizer is still very high for an ordinary farmer of this Country to produce enough food for the Kenyan population, there is a need for the national government to look into the issue with speed or else the Country will start depending on imported maize from other countries,” said Natembeya.

The Governor also asked the government to fix the Social Health Authority fund to make it operational to help each patient visiting any health facility in the Country.

He also wants the Ministry of Health to reinstate Linda Mama, an initiative that helps the government cater for women’s health from the time of pregnancy until delivery.

He also reiterated the failure of the Ministry of Education to fully put in place all that is needed under the CBC system of Education.

In addition, he said if no proper structures in fully adopting the system are put in place, there is a need to scrape the arrangement and revert to 8-4-4.

He called for an urgent change to the political engagement in the country that would spur free and fair elections.

This, he said, will ensure the winner of any elections takes power and forms the government while the loser would form the opposition and remain to oversight the government.

Natembeya has castigated the move by opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for always joining the government after every election.

He pointed out that since the time of the late President Daniel Arap Moi to date, he has been taking advantage to join the government for his gains leaving behind Kenyans who have always fought for him.
