IEBC Declares UDA Candidates for Tembelio, Metkei Ward By-Elections Elected Unopposed

Tembelio and Metkei wards in Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties now have a new Member of County Assembly.

The two wards had by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025 to fill the vacant positions.

Tembelio MCA position fell vacant following appointment of the then representative, Evans Kapkea as Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor.

Following nomination process conducted by various political parties, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday, October 31, 2025, declared no contest for the two seats.

The decision was reached after only United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presented candidates in the two by-elections.

In exercise of the powers conferred by Articie 88 of the constitution, section 4 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, Section 13 of the Elections Act, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission makes a declaration of no contest and persons listed in the 7th and 8th column of the schedule duly elected for the electoral units listed in the 6th column of the schedule,” IEBC said in a gazette notice dates October 29, 2025.

The ruling party had nominated Reuben Kigen Tobosei for the Tembelio Ward by-elections and Philip Kipkosgei Kiprutto for Metkei ward.

With the IEBC’s declaration, the two are now set to be sworn in as new MCAs in Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet.

Meanwhile, IEBC has also published the logs if nominated candidates in the other remaining by-elections, designated polling stations and rallying centres.

All Candidates and participating Political Parties are required to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct throughout this period,” the commission said.

The Commission remains resolute in its mandate to uphold and strengthen Kenya’s democracy,” it added.
