The formation of Uasin Gishu Sports Council’s primary focus is to expand and grow a diversity of as much sports talents in the County.
The Council is now being harnessed to populate the medal cabinet to rake more sports silverware for the county well known as the mecca of world athletics.
“Governor Jonathan Bii in his development agenda emphasizes growing multi-sports talents for Uasin Gishu to bring forth great swimmers, footballers, basketballers and all the greats in the world of sports,” Sports County Executive, Eng Lucy Ng’endo said on Thursday.

Eng Ng’endo said these as she graced the awarding ceremony for awarding of winners of the Uasin Gishu County Men’s Football League.
Moreover, the executive said the County Government formed the Council to help in the identification and nurturing of all talents. The council consists of officials from football, volleyball, athletics, tennis, basketball, swimming as well as all federations in Kenya.
“In our deliberate plans to grow talent and empower our youth to commercialize talents, the second edition of the Governor’s Cup has been expanded to incorporate football alongside volleyball,” added Ng’endo.
Chief Officer for Sports, Nahum Jelagat also said the Department is working on budgeting for more tournaments.

Further, County Sports Council’s chair Paul Tororei, said: “In collaboration with the County Government, we would like to arrange and organize sub-county and ward competitions to grow talent right from the grassroots.”
Black Rangers from Ziwa won the league, while St Joseph’s Kapseret and Lemook FC – both from Kapseret Sub-County finishing second and third in that order.
