Residents of Kaptait village in Soy Ward, Soy Sub County have taken a stand against the distribution of illicit brew and substances in the area.
The locals say the substances have had a detrimental impact in their community among them being loss of lives.
According to them, most of the Illicit brew consumed in the area is sourced from Budalangi and Huruma estates.
They spoke on Thursday during a public participation exercise on illicit brew and substances abuse.
Acting Director of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Koiya Arap Maiyo, who also attended the event acknowledged the residents call to put to an end the distribution of the illicit brew in their area.
“Let us come together and desist from alcoholism and drug related behaviours because it is the only way we will be saving the next generation,” said Koiya.

On his part, Soy Ward Administrator Kipchirchir Bittok urged the youth to enrol to vocational training centres to benefit from government programs. This, the administrator said was a way of creating employment among themselves.
Kogo Julia Chepkwony, a resident in the area revealed that at least nine households are involved in the production and distribution of illicit brew in the area – a move which has prompted them to raise an alarm for action to be taken so as to curb the illegal activities in order to protect their well-being.
The elderly local also noted that most prominent impacts of the consumption of illicit brew has been observed amongst school-going children which has adversely affected their studies and overall academic progress due to parental negligence.
The county has however committed to stepping up its efforts in cracking down on the production and distribution of illicit brew and substances.
