Loreto High School Matunda has regained its academic position on the map of Kenya.
The extra-county girls’ school located in Soy sub-county, Uasin Gishu, posted the best results in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) after a decade.
Its performance was only bettered by Moi Girls High School, Eldoret – a National School.
In an interview with Uasin Gishu News, Dr. Phylis Chepkok, the school’s Chief Principal, said the school attained a mean score of 7.8.

“Out of 283 candidates, 252 are transiting to university translating to 89%. This is an improvement from 2023, where 69% transited directly to the university,” Chepkok said.
11 candidates scored B+, 71 B plains, 100 B-, 68 C+, 22 C plain, 7 C- and 2 had D+.
Chepkok attributed this performance to discipline, desire for excellence and teamwork among all the stakeholders.
She called on 716,121 candidates who scored below C+ to consider technical courses offered by technical and vocational institutions.
“I want to challenge them that the future belongs to those who believe in their dreams. They continue dreaming. For those who scored below C+, they should join our technical institutes that are well funded,” she urged.
How did Matunda SA Secondary School perform in 2024 KCSE?
Her sentiments were echoed by Mary Sifuna, the Deputy Principal of Matunda SA Secondary School in Likuyani, Kakamega County.
Sifuna who represented the school Principal Mary Luvanda said the best student scored a mean grade of A plain with 81 points.
The mixed-day school will send a total of 195 candidates to public universities.
“Our last year’s candidates were very disciplined and committed to their studies. Being a pure mixed day school and scoring an A plain is a great achievement,” she stated.
