Barely a month after workers at Moi University called off their strike, the institution is yet again set to witness disruption of learning.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) announced on Friday, January 10, 2025, that its members will resume strike immediately.
In a statement seen by Uasin Gishu News, UASU Moi University chapter officials said their decision was necessitated by management’s failure to adhere to the return-to-work agreement.
The agreement was signed in November 2024.
“Following a meeting of all members of staff of Moi University, it has been decided that the industrial action commenced last year in August 2024 be resumed with immediate effect,” read part of the statement.
“We call upon all staff to, therefore, stay away from their work stations until further notice from the unions,” it added.

Union officials told journalists in Eldoret that the university had not yet paid their members’ December 2024 salaries.
They noted that part of the Return-to-Work Agreement was that there would be no further delays in salary payment.
Moi University management and staff union officials signed the agreement after negotiations that were steered by the Ministry of Education officials.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala were present during the signing of the agreement.

However, the Moi University staff are now questioning the institution’s commitment to meet their demands.
