The Government has disbursed KSh 7.7 billion under Primary Health Care (PHC) to boost Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced release of the money during a press briefing at Afya House, Nairobi on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Duale also emphasised that the Ministry has stepped up its crackdown on fraud within the Social Health Authority (SHA).
How much has hospitals fraudulently claimed under SHA?
The CS revealed that since the rollout of Taifa Care, over KSh 10.6 billion in fraudulent claims have been rejected, insisting that every shilling in the Social Health Insurance Fund must go to genuine, life-saving healthcare.

He warned fraudulent providers, patients, and facilities that they will face prosecution and recovery of funds.
In addition, Duale urged Kenyans to report suspected fraud via SHA’s toll-free number 147.
Kenyan government’s Anti-fraud action
He further noted that the Ministry is working with insurers including Jubilee Health, AAR, and Old Mutual to establish a Joint Anti-Fraud Action, aimed at safeguarding public resources while strengthening accountability and transparency in the health sector.

The CS was accompanied by Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, Kenya Medical Practitioners Dentist Council (KMPDC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. David Kariuki, SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, Digital Health Agency CEO Eng. Anthony Lenayara, and SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed.
