Kenyatta National Hospital Receives State-of-the-art Spirometry Machine From Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has received a state-of-the-art spirometry machine from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

This donation is expected to greatly improve the hospital’s ability to diagnose and manage respiratory diseases.

The machine was handed over to acting KNH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, and Dr. Andrew Owuor, Consultant Pulmonologist and Head of the Respiratory Unit, by Dr. William Mwiti, Medical Head of AstraZeneca’s BioPharma Business Unit for SSA & FSA.

The spirometry machine, used for lung function tests, will help diagnose and monitor asthma, COPD, other lung diseases, and support lung cancer staging.

It will be placed at the Outpatient Asthma Clinic, making KNH the only public facility in Kenya with this advanced technology.

With faster and more accurate diagnosis, patients can receive timely and appropriate treatment.

This donation positions KNH as a centre of excellence in asthma management and strengthens its capacity as a training hub for medical practitioners, nurses, and specialists in diagnosing and managing asthma and COPD,” KNH said on Monday, November 24, 2025.
