Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea has flagged off a consignment of medical supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), reaffirming the county government’s commitment to improving healthcare service delivery.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to Governor Dr Jonathan Bii for prioritising the health sector and ensuring the timely procurement and distribution of essential medical supplies to health facilities across the county.
Kapkea noted that KEMSA had delivered the supplies on time, enabling the county to effectively meet its healthcare needs. The consignment comprises Uasin Gishu County’s Quarter Four orders for the Financial Year 2025/2026, valued at KSh 67,429,740.
“We are proud as the County Government of Uasin Gishu to receive this consignment. The Governor has done a lot in strengthening the health sector, and we remain committed to improving the quality of healthcare services for our residents,” said Kapkea.
He further highlighted ongoing efforts by the county to improve health financing, including the reimbursement of the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF), and applauded residents for embracing the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration exercise. Uasin Gishu County currently ranks 9th nationally in SHA registration, marking a great milestone in health services.
How KEMSA drugs reach Uasin Gishu health facilities
The Deputy Governor also thanked Governor Dr Bii for issuing an executive directive that allows medicines and medical supplies to be delivered directly to healthcare facilities, enhancing efficiency and reducing delays in service delivery.
The supplies flagged off will be distributed to all health facilities across the county and include pharmaceutical products, Laboratory supplies, Linen products, X-ray supplies, Dental products, public health commodities, basic medical equipment, Orthopedic products.
Speaking at the event, Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus said the county was privileged to receive the supplies from KEMSA, noting that the consignment would be distributed to health facilities in all sub-counties.
“We are privileged to receive these essential drugs and medical supplies from KEMSA. The consignment will be distributed to different sub-counties to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for our residents,” said Tarus.
The Acting Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health Services Dr. Billy Lubanga, described the occasion as a positive step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the county.
“We have marked this occasion with a good start. These supplies will help bridge existing gaps and improve access to quality healthcare services across the county,” he said.
