Eldoret is one of the key urban centres in the country. The town has in the recent past attracted a number of international and local investors.
As the Kenya Kwanza government settles down, it has already identified a number of key projects that will stimulate the town’s transformation into a city.
Recently Lands Cabinet Secretary Zacharia Mwangi visited the town and held discussions with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim after which he revealed some of the upcoming projects.

Here are some of the projects highlighted during the visit
Affordable Housing
The national government has committed to building low-cost houses across the country, in a bid to ensure citizens can have access to better housing.
In Uasin Gishu, the lands CS revealed that they had already identified at least 1,000 acres where the housing project will be set up.
“We’ve realized we can get over 1,000 acres in this area and we will advertise so that we can attract investors who will come and we start working on the program,” the Lands CS said.
Eldoret Railway City
Another key project in the plan is the setting up of the Eldoret Railway City. The Railway City, CS Mwangi said, will be implemented with collaboration between the county government and the national government as well as the private sector.
“Soon we will be coming up with the program that will be a game changer in this town. We’re requesting for good collaboration between national and county government and all other enablers,” he said.
The project will be set up at the current Eldoret Railway station.
Ultra-Modern Market
The lack of a market has been a main challenge for Eldoret town, but soon that will be a thing of the past. After a promise from President William Ruto on Christmas Day, the project is finally nearing its start.
The CS while in Eldoret said the Head of State will be commissioning it, latest early in February.

It is estimated that the market, which is multi-storied will cost at least Ksh6 billion. Once complete the market will have two-floor underground parking and several other floors for different types of traders.
All these projects are expected to create jobs not only during implementation but also after they are ready for use.
They are expected to be complete, just in time when Eldoret will have been elevated to be the fifth city in Kenya – after Nairobi – the country’s capital, the coastal Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru which was awarded city charter by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
