Telecommunications giant Safaricom has announced planned network maintenance.
The company in a notice on its verified social media pages indicated that the maintenance is planned for this Sunday, February 19, 2023.
But in a bid to minimize inconveniences to its customers, Safaricom says the services will be briefly unavailable between 1.30 AM and 2 AM.
“As we continue to deliver more innovations to our customers and support their needs as they evolve, we will be carrying out a planned network maintenance on the morning of Sunday 19th February 2023,” read part of the notice issued on Friday, February 17, 2023.
Among the services that will not be available during the planned network maintenance include Lipan na M-PESA PayBill and BuyGoods as well as International Money Transfers.
M-PESA Super App and Pinless Top Ups will also not be available.
“All other services including calls, data, SMS and other M-PESA services will remain available as usual,” noted Safaricom.
“We apologize for any inconveniences caused and thank you for your support as we continue to enhance our services to serve you even better,” the company added.
Safaricom is a listed Kenyan mobile network operator headquartered at Safaricom House in Nairobi.
It is the largest telecommunications provider in Kenya, and one of the most profitable companies in the East and Central Africa region.
The company offers mobile telephony, mobile money transfer, consumer electronics, e-commerce, cloud computing, data, music streaming, and fibre optic services. It is most renowned as the home of MPESA, a mobile banking SMS-based service.
Safaricom also controls approximately 64.5% per cent of the Kenyan market as of 2020 with a subscriber base estimated at approximately 35.6 million.
Further, in terms of voice market and SMS market share, Safaricom controls 69.2% and 92.2% respectively.
