Kitale Police Officer Fatally Electrocuted While Washing Clothes

A police officer attached to Kitale Police headquarters in Trans Nzoia County was on Monday night electrocuted while washing his clothes in his rented house in the Kibomet area.

Confirming the incident, Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Paul Wambugu said the officer in the rank of a police corporal might have stepped on an extension cable connected to a power socket.

The officer who was posted to Kitale recently was washing his clothes when he was electronically shocked because he was barefooted and water was on the floor,” Wambugu confirmed.

Wambugu said that officers and the neighbours of the deceased rushed to the scene to rescue him but they were unable.

Our police officers and his Kibomet area neighbours tried all they could to save him but it was too late. He was declared dead on arrival at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital,” he added.

Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the officer’s death.

Officers from DCI are currently investigating the matter. We want to know the cause of his death” said Wambugu.

His body is lying at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
