At least 10,000 locals are expected to attend the swearing-in of Jonathan Bii Chelilim alias Koti Moja as the second governor of Uasin Gishu.
The Committee of Assumption of the Office of Governor says plans for the swearing-in have been finalized.
In a media briefing, the committee chaired by County Secretary Edwin Bett said the event will be held this Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Eldoret Sports Club.

“Locals are welcome to attend the event. We have made arrangements for up to 10,000 people,” Bett told journalists at the county headquarters in Eldoret town on Monday, August 22, 2022.
The law requires that a governor is sworn in during a public event not earlier than 10 am and not later than 2 pm.
During the swearing-in event, locals will be required to be seated by 8 am.
Aside from members of the public, Bett says the event is also expected to be attended by high-ranking government officials and diplomats.
“We expected to have senior government officials, chief officers of parastatals, diplomats, Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly among others to also witness the new governor take an oath of office,” said the County Secretary.

At the event, Koti Moja will take the oath of office alongside his deputy Eng. John Barorot.
County symbols
During the handing over, the new governor will receive county symbols which are the County Seal, County Court of Arms, County Flag and the constitution.
“Those items will be handed over to the new governor to symbolize the transfer of executive power and authority,” said the Committee of Assumption of the Office of Governor chair.
The committee comprises representatives from the County Attorney, the Judiciary, Ministry of Devolution, Office of the County Commissioner and Clerk of County Assembly among others.
High Court Judge Prof. Joel Ngugi will preside over the oath-taking session assisted by Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan.

Once sworn in, Koti Moja will formally become the second governor of Uasin Gishu, taking over from Jackson Mandago who has seved for two terms since 2013.
