List: 50 Boarding Primary Schools in North Rift Facing Closure for Non-Compliance

The Ministry Of Education has ordered the closure of the boarding sections of 50 primary schools in Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Trans Nzoia Counties.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang in a directive to respective regional, county and sub-county directors of education said the said schools failed to meet required safety standards.

The 50 are among 348 across the country that a team assessing their compliance recommended be shut down.

The assessment established that some institutions grossly contravened the provision of the safety manual for schools in Kenya,” read part of the letter PS Kipsang sent to education directors.

Further, they did not adhere to the standards as prescribed in the Registration Guidelines for Basic Education Institutions,” he added.
