The Ministry of Education has released the official term dates for the 2025 academic year.
According to the dates that were made public on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the first term begins on January 6, 2025 with learners expected to be in class for 13 weeks.
They will break for the April holiday for three weeks from April 2025.
The second term, according to the academic calendar, will run for 14 weeks from April 28, 2025 to August 1, 2025 after which leaners will break for another 3 weeks for the August holiday.
Both first and second terms will have a five-day half term.
The first half-term will be from February 26th to March 2nd while the second half term will run from June 25th to June 29th.
In the third term, learners will be in school for 9 weeks – from August 25, 2024, to October 23, 2024 with no half term.
Students will then be at home for 10 weeks (two and a half months).
When will 2025 national examinations start?
During this period, national examinations will be administered to grade six and grade 9 learners – under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for the Form Fours under the 8-4-4 system which is being phased out.
The 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will run from October 27, 2025 to October 30, 2025 while the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will be from October 27th to October 31.
KCSE will be from November 3, 2025 to November 21, 2025.
