The selection panel for the recruitment of nominees for the appointment of the chairperson and members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released a list of Kenyans who applied for the vacant positions.
In the list published in the local dailies on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the panel revealed that 37 individuals applied for the position of IEBC chairperson, while 1,319 applied for the IEBC commissioner’s position.
A further 91 Kenyans submitted their applications but did not indicate the positions they were applying for.
Who has applied to be IEBC chairperson?
According to the list seen by Uasin Gishu News, some of the notable individuals lined up for the lucrative but challenging position include former Judiciary Registrar Ann Amadi, former chairperson of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) Charles Nyachae and former IEBC Chief Excutive Officer James Oswago.
Others are lawyer Kaikai Kissinger and the current Kenya Power board chairperson Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo.

One of the listed individuals is expected to take over the position initially held by the late Wafula Chebukati.
Chebukati’s term ended in January 2025, after presiding over two elections – 2017 and 2022.
