The County Government of Uasin Gishu, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Tobacco Control Board, is set to establish a drug rehabilitation centre at Kamalel Health Centre to support individuals struggling with drug and substance abuse.

Speaking in his office after the inspection of the proposed site, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that the project has been long overdue, given the increasing number of individuals battling addiction, further acknowledging the role of Moiben Rehabilitation Centre in shaping the lives of addicts and reintegrating them into society.

This facility will provide much-needed support to those affected by drug and substance abuse because many of our people, especially the youth, are struggling with addiction, and it is our responsibility as a government to ensure they receive the necessary help to rebuild their lives,” said Governor Bii.

Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea also commended the initiative, noting that it comes at a crucial time when many young people are in dire need of rehabilitation services.

This project is timely and will go a long way in rescuing and rehabilitating our young people who have fallen victim to drug abuse,” he stated.

Health Services County Executive Dr Abraham Serem flanked by Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr Paul Wangwe noted that the establishment of this rehabilitation centre aligns with ongoing efforts by both the county and national governments to combat drug abuse and promote public health adding that once complete, the centre is expected to provide counseling, medical support, and reintegration programs to help addicts recover and lead productive lives.

Among the sites assessed include Kibulgeny Dispensary, Children’s Rescue Centre and Kamalel Health Centre where the team of engineers from State Department of Public Works selected Kamalel as the most suitable site for the facility.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu under Governor Dr Jonathan Bii reaffirms its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
