Middle distance runner Daniel Simiu and steeplechaser Norah Jeruto emerged winners of the 31st edition of the Discovery Kenya Cross Country Championships held at the Eldoret Sports Club on Sunday, January 30, 2022.
Simiu won the 10-kilometers race after crossing the line in 30:14.0. He was followed by Kelvin Kibiwot, 21.9 seconds later, with a time of 30:35:09.
Edward Cheserek finished third with a time of 30:38.01.
In the women’s 10km race, Jeruto, who was the champion at the African Championships in Athletics in 2016 clocked 33:29:06 to emerge top, followed by Daisy Jepkemei (34.04.05) and Dorcus Jepchirchir (34:21:08) in the second and third positions respectively.
Over 1,000 athletes participated in the race that also attracted participants from neighboring Uganda.

A majority of athletes used the Discovery Cross Country Championships to sharpen their fitness ahead of the Agnes Tirop World Cross Country Tour.
The tour is slated to be held at the Lobo Village, in Kapseret, on the outskirts of Eldoret town on February 12, 2021.
This will be the first time the World Cross Country Tour will be staged in Kenya.
