The Social Health Authority (SHA) has revealed that 7,244 health facilities have so far submitted their Expressions of Interest (EoI) for contracting for the 2026-2029 cycle.
In a notice dated September 28, 2026, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the data is as of September 27, 2026, as the authority races to finalize contracting ahead of the October 1 deadline.
According to the breakdown released by SHA, Level 2 facilities — which comprise dispensaries and health centres — dominate the list with 3,512 applications.
They are followed by Level 3A facilities at 1,751 applications and Level 3B at 885.
Level 4/4A facilities, which include sub-county and county hospitals, account for 814 applications, while Level 4B stands at 123, Level 5A at 95, and Level 3C at 51.
How many level 6 hospitals have applied for SHA contracting?
High-end facilities recorded the lowest numbers, with only 10 Level 6B referral hospitals, and 3 Level 6A facilities having applied.
SHA said facilities wishing to offer services to its beneficiaries must complete their applications and contracting through the SHA e-contracting portal.
The authority clarified that submitting an Expression of Interest does not automatically translate into a contract.
“Submitting an Expression of Interest does not constitute a contract. Effective 01 October 2026, only facilities with executed contracts will be permitted to offer services to SHA beneficiaries,” Dr. Mwangangi said.
The contracting is part of SHA’s preparations to ensure seamless provision of services under the new cycle, even as Kenyans have been urged to check the status of their preferred facilities before the deadline lapses.
