Luhya Leaders Back Edwin Sifuna for 2027, Plan New Party and Western Kenya Rallies

A section of Luhya leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement have resolved to back Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The leaders also hinted at plan to unveil a new political party to drive their agenda.

According to Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, the decision was reached during a meeting held at the home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembea, on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

In a statement outlining the resolutions, Senator Osotsi said the leaders agreed that “Luhya leaders allied to Linda Mwananchi will rally behind Nairobi Senator Edwin W. Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.”

The group also resolved that “A party that will be used as our vehicle will be unveiled soon.”

To kick off grassroots mobilization, the leaders said they will hold “a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25 then head to Bungoma County on July 26 where a major Luhya declaration will be made.”

No further details were given on the proposed party’s name or the specific seat Senator Sifuna is expected to contest.

The back-to-back rallies are expected to set the tone for Linda Mwananchi’s engagements in Western Kenya ahead of 2027.
