Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has asked the county executive and MCAs to consider elevating Kipkorgot Centre into a municipality.
Mandago says the centre, regarded among the fastest growing within Uasin Gishu county deserves a status that will enable it to benefit from funding available for urban centres.
In his address to the Uasin Gishu County Assembly, the former Senator noted that if Kipkorgot has not yet met the requirements to be a municipality, it can be mapped to be within the boundaries of the soon-to-be Eldoret City.

“I urge the county government and the assembly to consider Kipkorgot for elevation into a municipality or it at least be capped within the boundaries of Eldoret town,” Mandago said.
“This will enable the centre to get funding from the World Bank for among others sewerage system and water services,” he added.
Which are the new municipalities in Uasin Gishu?
The County Government of Uasin Gishu is currently in the process of elevating 6 townships to municipalities.
Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim a few weeks ago inaugurated an ad-hoc committee that were mandated to collect views from the public and other stakeholders on the eligibility of the townships to be municipalities.
The six townships being fronted for the municipality status include Moiben, Turbo, Kesses, Burnt Forest, Moi’s Bridge and Ziwa.
Mandago welcomed the ongoing plan saying “It will spur social economic development and attract more conditional grants.
The elevation of the six townships comes at a time when Eldoret is awaiting the city charter.

The Senate has since passed a report that recommended Eldoret to be a city. The report is before the President who is expected to issue a charter.
It is anticipated that President William Ruto will award Eldoret a city charter in August 2024.
