An Eldoret man has announced plans to launch an initiative aimed at raising funds for the establishment of a kitty to help create employment opportunities.
The man, Michael Kirwa, says the funds will be raised through a walk set to start later next week.
In an interview with Uasin Gishu News, Kirwa noted that he will be seeking for an introduction of a 1 per cent Harambee Tax for the kitty.
The walk will also see him visit prominent leaders whom he hopes will support the initiative.
“The first one will be Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi. He will be the catalyst for this initiative,” Kirwa said.
When will Harambee tax walk be launched?
A launch for the walk is set for June 6, 2024, from Eldoret town.
“This initiative seeks to find a lasting solution to lack of jobs amongst Kenyans, especially the youths,” he said.
“As much as I’m seeking the establishment of the jobs creation kitty, I have already identified one that President William Ruto will give me and I will be earning a salary of Ksh24,” he added.
Asked on the details of the job that pays Ksh24, Kirwa said: ‘Just relax and witness what God can do.
The Eldoret-based man has a long list of prominent leaders he will be visiting in his bid to raise funds for the jobless. They include Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries Zachary Mwangi, Simon Chelugui, Rebbeca Miano, Kithure Kindiki, Alfred Mutua, Zachary Mwangi and Kipchumba Murkomen.
Others are Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, senate leader of the majority Aaron Cheruiyot, First Lady Mama Rachael Ruto and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta among others.
Meanwhile, the Eldoret man is asking any Kenyan of goodwill to support the initiative by voluntarily making their contributions.
“Any amount that one can donate to this initiative is welcome from Kenyans. But for those with a salary, I request that they give 1 per cent of the salary,” he said
In line with his job creation bid, Kirwa is walking to implement his resolution for 2024, which is to repay public debt, and end corruption within 40 days among many others.
“I now owe the President over 35,100 jobs for the days he has been in office,” Kirwa said.
