Former Trans Nzoia Senator Michael Maling’a Mbito has left many residents talking and smiling after surprising them with Christmas eve Mpesa messages.
According to the soft-spoken politician, the Christmas gift in the form of money is an illustration of the love of Jesus Christ whom Christians are celebrating his birthday.
Even after losing the Saboti Constituency Parliamentary seat in 2022, Mbito,who served as Senator from 2017 to 2022, has been sending Christmas to residents of all the 25 wards in Trans Nzoia County.
Which seat will Mbito vie for in 2027?
Although he has not officially declared his next political move, the politician hinted that he will be in the race in the 2027 General Election.
“Si ni maombi yenu imefanya mpaka ka-deal imeivana!! Mungu mbele,” Mbito posted in Bunge la Wananchi WhatsApp group.
Speaking to Uasin Gishu News, Jane Wasike, a resident of Bidii ward and a member of Mbito’s secretariat said the gifts are meant to boost residents who are going through tough economic times.
“We are doing this not because we have surplus but because Mbito has a big heart for his people. We know the economy is not doing good and many people cannot afford basic needs and that is why we came through,” Wasike said.
According to some of the recipients of the monetary gift, the money came at a time they most needed to celebrate Christmas with their families.
Led by Kabisa wa Kabisa, the residents wished Mbito the best in his political ambition.
“Hon Mbito you have made my day baraka tele kiongozi,” Kabisa Kabisa posted.
Abraham Simiyu said “Hon Mbito wewe ndio mtu ya watu, sio siri kiti Gani unataka kumbe?”
Some of them received their gift while partying in clubs and other entertainment joints.
Erastus Masinde said the gift enabled him to add some more bottles of his favourite drink.
“Hon Mbito wacha niongeze Mzinga tena. Confirmed! Thanks,” said Masinde.
Mbito’s good gesture is still the topic of discussion in many WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages.
