Moi University has officially launched the assembly of digital devices for the Jitume Digital Hubs Project through its technology and innovation unit, MU Technologies.
The launch was officiated by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kiplagat Kotut, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
The project involves the local assembly, supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of 7,000 desktop computers for Jitume Digital Hubs across the country in partnership with the Konza Technopolis Development Authority.
Speaking during the launch, the Acting Vice-Chancellor noted that the project demonstrates the University’s growing role in digital innovation, technology development, skills training and national development.
He emphasized that MU Technologies was established to support computing, telecommunications and digital transformation while providing practical training opportunities for students and supporting national ICT projects.
What is the capacity of MU Technologies?
MU Technologies operates a digital assembly plant with the capacity to assemble digital devices as well as provide repair, warehousing and after sales support services.
This capacity positions the University strategically to support national digital programmes and technology development.
The Jitume Digital Hubs Project is part of the Government’s plan to establish digital hubs across Kenya to expand access to digital services, digital skills, online work, innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly among youth and communities in rural and underserved areas.
The hubs are expected to support opportunities in online jobs, e-commerce, digital government services, innovation and the creative economy.
Under the project, Moi University will be responsible for the local assembly of the 7,000 computers, delivery and installation at digital hubs across the country and provision of after sales support and maintenance services for a period of two years.
The project will also provide practical training opportunities for students in computer assembly, quality control, software installation, logistics, installation, maintenance and technical support while strengthening the University’s role in research, innovation, technology transfer and industry collaboration.
